Cards developed from: Romare Bearden’s The Return of Odysseus (Homage to Pinturicchio and Benin), 1977;  Jacob Lawrence’s The Wedding, 1948;  Kerry James Marshall’s Many Mansions, 1994;  Walter Ellison’s Train Station, 1935;   Archibald John Motley Jr.’s Nightlife, 1943- from the Art Institute of Chicago’s collection.

The multi-faceted experience of African-Americans reflected in these pieces are from the early-to-mid 20th century, as African-Americans streamed into the big cities in search of work.
